This week, I'm trying to use ingredients that I have, as the first of the month is always a tight time. I also plan on purchasing things that I NEED that will be on sale and will try to avoid unnecessary items.

I'm trying to get back to following the Flat Belly concept of (4) 400 calorie meals per day, and I plan on exercising at least 3 days this week.

Back to School Health Tips

I just came across a great article regarding Back to School and the usual sickness that follows. This article includes health tips regarding hygiene methods to teach your children, and how to keep their immune systems in top shape.

Around our house, we use natural disinfecting products, take supplements and visit the chiropractor regularly to keep our systems balanced. Our son also goes to bed fairly early and I try to keep our family healthy by eliminating preservatives, fillers, hydrogenated oils and corn syrup and increasing the amount of healthy and whole foods that we eat.

There are several ways to teach your children how to prevent illness this coming school year. It's not enough to leave it up to our school system and teachers to keep our children healthy, it is OUR responsibility as parents.

When requested to bring cleaning products, why not try an alternative green product, such as Seventh Generation Disinfecting products. These products are as effective as chemical laden products, but do not produce the smells, chemicals and possible respiratory and topical reactions. Yes, they may be slightly more expensive, but coupons are available, and these items do go on sale. However, the health benefits are far worth the price!

Sunday Coupon Preview 8/1

This weekend is a great weekend to start couponing!

There will be (4) inserts. You should get (1) P&G, (1) Smartsouce, and (2) Red Plum. I find that in my area, when I am supposed to get 2 Red Plum, they are typically combined into one, so you may get some of the coupons from both in 1 insert.

There are variations by region, so plan on buying the largest paper in your area. If you are unable to get a great paper, there are several alternatives. One that I recently found was Whole Coupon Inserts. I have not personally tried it, but would love to hear some feedback if you have. You can also shop The Coupon Clippers and other clipping sites.

Nutritious, Affordable School Lunch Meal at Publix

As we approach back to school, I believe that it is very important for us to feed our children healthy, nutritious and balanced meals. A lot of times, the school meals are not healthy and are loaded with lots of calories, fat, preservatives, etc. In order for our children to concentrate and succeed in their studies, I believe that nutrition plays a huge role, before, during and after the school day.

When I went into Publix today, a deli employee saw me with my two year old and mentioned she was just putting out their new lunch to go kits for kids. Interested, as I saw this in the Back to School Sale Mailer yesterday, I followed her and questioned the product.

I was pleasantly surprised when she told me about it. She also mentioned other varieties, but I did not view them and cannot find that information on the website. Check your store for possible alternative varieties.

I saw the deli thin with Boar's Head ham (a great healthier alternative to other heavily preserved brands), a bag of carrots, a Yoplait yogurt cup (I believe it is supposed to be Stonyfield Organic Kid's) and a Mott's Apple Juice bottle. All this for $3.99!

Considering the nutrition value of this meal, compared to the alternatives out there, I believe that $3.99 is a great price! I personally wouldn't rely on this every day, but if you needed a few quick grab and go lunches each week, I think this is a positive alternative.

UPDATED: I saw two other varieties today at another store. PBJ wrap and sandwich minis.

Target Toy Clearance and Store Coupons

I went to Target today for a few small things, but went around to check end caps for clearance items. When I got to the toy area, it was a disaster! However, they are reorganizing and setting out a ton of toys on clearance.

If you're wanting to get a head start on birthday/Christmas shopping, now is the time! The toys were anywhere from 30-50% off. The clearance items were not just on end caps either, there was at least a whole row devoted to clearance items. I'd act on this fast, because you never know how long they will keep items priced like this.

Potty Training Update

I haven't done a potty training update in a while.....because I honestly haven't been doing much with him! We went on vacation the beginning of June and I decided that it wasn't worth it to pressure him to go, and there really was so much going on. Since then, I haven't really done much, other than a little here and there.

This week, I started to try and get back on track, but I am not getting the cooperation we had when we were on a roll before. One thing that has improved is his ability to hold things longer, and also, the ability to recognize when he needs to go. It's kind of funny because I'll be busy cleaning or something, and notice him running either to my room or down the hallway to his bathroom. He kind of whines and lets out this 'mommy' a certain way which instantly lets me know that he is needing to go.

We still have our hesitancy's about doing certain things in the potty. It has actually gotten quite bad. I think it may have to do with his age and the uncertainty of things.

Since I went to Colorado, I'm trying to get everything back on track and have a planned schedule throughout the day. I'm hoping that next week, we can really start focusing on things a lot more and work that into our routine as well.

This week, you should get 1 SmartSource and 1 RedPlum in your paper. This is a list of the anticipated coupons, courtesy of Coupon Previews on WeUseCoupons. The coupons you receive in your area may vary, and tend to vary based on the size of your paper. I suggest buying the largest paper, but ALWAYS check and compare what you get in each.

I'm liking all the paper products, and the $1/1 Post Cereal this week!

If you don't get any good coupons in your area, or have a hard time finding papers, I found an alternative to papers that you might like. I have not tried them personally, but thought it was interesting, because all I do is pay for the paper and throw it away, leaving a few ads and the coupons. Since most stores have online ads, this could possibly do away with the hassle of hunting down papers. Whole Coupon Inserts sells the inserts for a minimal fee, plus shipping. Nothing is cut from them, and they list the coupons that are in the insert, so you can check before you buy. It may end up being the same as buying papers in the long run, but just thought I'd share that find with you.

I Shop Wholesale Clubs

Often times, many people think that when you coupon and stockpile, it is not necessary to shop wholesale clubs. I actually stopped shopping at Sam's Club for quite a while. However, I started going again and realized that there is some value in having that membership.

Recently though, I went into Costco to scope things out..again. I have heard about great improvements in the products they carry. When I went in, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of natural and organic products that they carry. So, when I saw the quality of products Costco carries, I jumped on the membership.

For this reason, as well as others regarding my local Sam's Club (quality of food, store environment, the length of time produce lasts, etc), I'll not be renewing that next month. I went in the other day and it was literally torture to shop there. I just wanted to get out!

I try as often as possible to buy natural and organic products for my family, because I know that they are healthier and do less harm to my family. That being said, I do not ALWAYS buy organic, because the prices can be significantly different. I try to buy natural and organic in the most important foods that have the most pesticides.

In all reality, to me, the prices at wholesale clubs CAN be comparable to savings in stores. It of course depends on the products you buy. I like Costco because they also send you coupons!

Milk and eggs are cheaper at wholesale clubs. Frozen fruit is cheaper (depending on the fruit you want). Bread and buns are cheaper and you get larger quantities (of some products) than grocery stores. We use large quantities of nuts and chocolate chips, and for the quantity, these are more affordable (to me) at wholesale clubs. I could go on, but haven't sat down and really gotten in to comparing as deep as I could.

Needless to say, it is a personal opinion whether you want to shop wholesale clubs or not. I value it and find that it works for me, but for others, it may not. Have you found it to be beneficial? Is it not worth it to you? What products are a better value at wholesale clubs vs supermarkets or vice versa? I'd love to hear some feedback!

Part of this reason is because the software I had was removed from the computer when it was reloaded, and has never made it back on. I think that I also was supposed to upgrade and pay, but I didn't want to do that.

Hermie: Who's In Charge Anyway - DVD Review

We have a few of the Hermie movies, but not many, so I jumped on the opportunity to review the Hermie: Who's In Charge Anyway DVD. My 2 year old likes to watch these DVDs (actually sitting and paying attention) and this one was no different.

I really liked the messages that were portrayed in this DVD. This movie gave several examples of Hermie and his friends learning that God made each person unique and with a special purpose. Although every person is different, God has a plan for our lives and He makes no mistakes in His purpose for any of us. I think it is important to start teaching children, at a young age, that they were created by God to be unique in their own way, and that He has a plan for them. Too many times, I feel that these lessons are told too late in a child's life. We need to reach children when they are young and the most impressionable. That is our duty as parents and believers.

I highly recommend this and other Hermie movies to teach your children about the Lord and how much He loves and cares for us.

My Review:

I really enjoyed using this product. I used it in my hot tea and on fresh fruit to determine if there would be an aftertaste. I was pleasantly surprised at the sweetness, and did not notice an artificial aftertaste like other sweeteners leave. You do not need that much to get the sweetness. I used half a packet in my cup of tea and the amount on fresh fruit varied based on what the fruit was. I really appreciate that a natural sweetener has been created for those of us who try to avoid artificial ones, and will definitely be using this product in the future. I'd be interested to see how it tastes in baked goods. The website offers a variety of recipes.

Savvy Blogging Summit: A Renewed Passion

I have definitely been MIA since last week, and honestly, even before that mentally. If you haven't figured out where I've been from my post about the Great Beginning to the Savvy Blogging Summit, you should read that first.

I cannot think of a more beautiful and relaxing (although it was hectic) place to have spent the weekend than the mountains in Breckenridge! The weather was amazing, and waking up each day to a gorgeous view and crisp, cool weather, gave me clarity of mind before I was loaded with information.

All I could think about was going hiking, but besides not having the time, I'd probably pass out from lack of oxygen! However, there was one evening where I got to walk around with Karen from Saving the Family Money, which was fun and refreshing. I love being out in nature and sometimes where I am, you just don't have that opportunity because of the hot and humid weather.

The hotel was amazing and the food was great. Every blogger was so sweet and transparent. I really felt like I was leaving my family when we separated. The relationships that were formed will hopefully be long term friendships. I had an amazing time getting to know all these ladies:

Each day, we had early starts and got right into our classes. There was so much information, that I am going to have to listen and read over it again. I have to say that all the speakers were fantastic, and all the courses were pertinent and relayed lots of new information that I'd never even considered as a blogger. I have so many things to mull over, I can't even begin to explain them.

What I can say, is that I have a renewed passion for my blog that was beginning to fade before this past weekend, and I desperately seek to follow where the Lord leads me. He has brought me to this point, given me the opportunity to attend the Savvy Blogging Summit and is pushing me forward. Nothing has been random. I truly believe that it is part of His purpose for me, and what else can I do but follow His will?

I am currently in Breckenridge, Colorado! Let me tell you, I can walk about 100 feet and get winded. I feel so out of shape, it isn't funny!

Besides the minor elevation difficulties, this day has been pretty good. Of course, my first plane sat on the tarmac for about 30 minutes and arrived late to my layover. This wouldn't have been so bad if I had time to stop and grab more than a bottle of water and some pretzels for breakfast, and at least been familiar with the terminal my connection was in! I have never seen that side of the airport!

Thankfully, we arrived in Denver on time and I got to meet a great bunch of ladies! I shared a van with Smockity Frocks, The Coupon Mommie, Coupon Cookin, Giving Up on Perfect, Pink Coupon Cafe, Saving the Family Money and Passion for Savings. What a great bunch of ladies! We learned so much from each other in that 2 hour ride!

When we checked in, we met other attendees, as well as sponsors, and had a great time mingling and getting to know each other. In talking with others, it seems as though we're all hoping for some great inspiration from the Summit! Can't wait!

Try to get the bigger one for your area, however, note that they do not always give you all the inserts, if you have a smaller paper that will have both. This has become the case in my area. A good place to get papers is Books A Million, if they carry yours. You get your store discount, but usually they have a limited selection and you have to get there close to opening.

Have you ever gotten your Sunday paper and wondered why you pay for it, when you hardly get anything you can use? Have you wondered where in the world are all the GOOD coupons that you see previewed? Well, there is a simple solution to these dilemmas...trade!

You may be wondering where or how you get started trading. It is pretty easy, and is a great way to exchange what you do not use or cannot use, for the coupons you really want and find useful. When you think about having to pay for postage to request these coupons, remember that you will be saving WAY more than will make up for a couple of stamps!

Over at We Use Coupons, there is a board where you can post what you need, see what other people need and create a wish list for others to browse. You can even trade your expired coupons! Don't throw these away, as many people (including military families) can use them up to 3 months post date.

A word of advice: NEVER trade for anything other than coupons. You cannot always be sure that you are going to get what you request, but if someone is offering money or gift cards, etc, the likelihood that they will return the favor is probably pretty low. Don't ask how I know...

Savvy Blogging Summit

If you're wondering where I've been lately, I have been busy trying to get all my usual priorities in line. We had a good weekend, as DH had a 5 day weekend thanks to working Father's Day weekend and the weekend after. He went back to work yesterday, so everything was pretty much on hold while he was home.

I've been in somewhat of a rush to find clothes for cooler weather, get all my usual cleaning and laundry done, as well as my usual daily routines. I just got back from getting some food for the boys. I haven't even had a chance to think about couponing, going to CVS or anything since the end of last week. Honestly, I'm relishing the break. I don't even want to think about that, I think I was becoming burnt out, and my mind wasn't fully in it. It's ok to take a break every now and then!

Tomorrow, I will be leaving for the Savvy Blogging Summit in Breckenridge, CO. I am so excited! I can't wait to learn behind the scenes information regarding blogging and also learn how I can make my blog better for those of you that follow and read. I'm ready for some change, some bigger goals and encouragement! I don't think I'm ready for the weather change from 90s to 60s though! It's going to feel like winter!

I went in to Old Navy today, praying that I would find a sweater and some tops. Well, thankfully, they have started putting out long sleeves! That's great for me, since I'm going to CO this week and just might need them!

While I was browsing, I noticed that on the display tables, the bottom shelves were full of clearance items. These items ranged from jeans to tees, to sweaters, to pants, to other tops. If you are in need of some clothes, whether for now, or for the fall, I'd definitely check them out.

Be advised that even though the clearance price might be high, it might be less. I picked up a pair of jeans for $23.99 and they rang up as $9.xx!

My Opinion:

After using this twice a day for 3 weeks, I have noticed a positive change. Although I have been using whitening toothpaste, I have noticed that the whiteness has improved beyond what I could achieve by toothpaste alone. The mint itself dissolves somewhat slowly, but it does have a light minty taste. It is not overpowering at all and the texture is not chalky or gritty as it dissolves.

I like the fact that it is a natural whitener and oral care product. It contains no artificial sweeteners, flavors or colors and is suitable for vegetarians. Overall, I really like this product.

If you haven't followed me for very long, and even if you have, then you may or may not know that I was chosen to attend the Savvy Blogging Summit in July. I am so excited as this will be my first blogging conference. I'm eager to learn some of the technical things that relate to blogging.

While the purpose of that conference is mostly business, I have recently browsed several of the other blog conferences that take place every year. One that stuck out to me was the Relevant conference which will be hosted in Harrisburg, PA in October.

One of the sponsors of this great event is Country Bob's. Not only are they sponsoring the event, but they are giving away a ticket. If you are not familiar with them, they are a company that creates grilling sauces. However, one thing I did not know is that they base their business practices on their faith, which is truly amazing these days! I have not tried their sauces, but have heard great things about them. Finger Painting Friday

As I posted yesterday, I'm trying to come up with ideas so that a certain 2 year old stays out of trouble. He LOVES to finger paint, so I decided to pull that out. I bought a huge roll of butcher paper from Sam's about a year ago and it is great for just using our imagine to color, paint, etc. I couldn't help taking the pictures, because he was SO messy! He of course had to go into the bath because a wipe just wouldn't have cut it! I can't resist sharing some of the pictures!

Teaching Your Child At Home

Lately, I've really been wanting to engage my son some more. He's just at a point where he needs to be occupied as much as possible during the day. If he isn't, he gets into trouble or we end up being lazy and he doesn't get all his energy out, not to mention his brain isn't stretched. Since it is too hot some days to go outside, I am trying to come up with a sort of learning/activity routine for those days that we aren't out running errands, etc. Having background working with 2 year old's in a preschool, I somewhat know what to do, I just don't have all the same resources.

I recently started following Like a Warm Cup of Coffee. This is a very encouraging and personal blog. I really like the transparency that Sarah gives in her posts. On the right hand side, you can search for posts by topics. In browsing, I found an interesting guest post titled 10 Ways To Teach Toddlers and Preschoolers. Most of the suggestions are probably things you already have around the house. I know that we love to scribble and do puzzles around here. It is so funny how, to a child, a circle can be Nemo, a dinosaur or anything else under the sun!

I thought I'd share this post with those of you who are in the same boat I am and are looking for some activity ideas. Whether or not you believe it, you are homeschooling your child just by being home with them and teaching them everyday things! If I find any other resources, I'll post those as well. If you have any resources, I'd love you to share those, as I'm always looking!

Where Has The Week Gone?!

Honestly, I still had it in my brain that today was Wednesday. Obviously, it is Thursday and I can't really figure out how the week went by so fast! The beginning of the week is always busy, but then it calms down. Not so this week, as Ian has either a cold or really bad allergies. He is so stuffy and congested, and now I have a sore throat and congestion. We can't get a break from the pollen this year! Also, whatever it is, nothing seems to help with relieving the symptoms. A 2 year old is at times enough, but a cranky 2 year old with congestion and coughing, not taking good naps, and having to be cooped up because it is unbearably hot outside, well, that's just about all I can handle! This mommy is praying for some relief!

Target Summer Clearance

Well, the time has come for school supplies to be set out! I was in Target yesterday and noticed that all the outdoor furniture was 30% off. Some items have been on sale throughout the season, but not all of them. Plus, they brought out all the boxes from the back and displayed them.

I asked if the sale meant they were starting to get rid of items, and the woman said yes, they're getting ready to put the school stuff out.

30% isn't that much yet, but keep an eye out, because I imagine that they are going to start putting school stuff out the beginning to middle of July. I know we're trying to get some patio furniture, so I'll be keeping my eye on them!

Well, last week, I'm not quite sure what happened with our menu. I made it, shopped for it, and then....well...it didn't get used! Thankfully, my produce is still good, as some of the items I couldn't get out to purchase until later in the week. We did eat out 2 nights and got taken out 1 night.

So, the plan this week is to recycle what we've got and make use of the ingredients that aren't designated. When I open my pantry, it is pretty full actually, so this should be no problem. The only problem is we don't have any chicken, so it's a turkey week!

Rave and Carmike Summer Movie Schedule

Yesterday, we attempted to see Ice Age. I am not sure if it was the fact that the movie started late, so by that time, we'd already sat there about 45 minutes, or the fact that we've seen the movie a hundred times. Ian would not sit still, was kicking and hitting me because I was trying to make him sit, and he was bothering people around and in front of us. Such is life with a two year old! I guess the thing to do is get your seat, get the popcorn right as the movie starts, and see a movie that he's not seen many times before! Maybe next week will be better.

Also, I wasn't aware, but my friend mentions on her blog that Carmike is doing a summer movie series as well. You pay $1 each for movie, popcorn or drink. If the popcorn and drinks are regular size, this is a great deal, compared to Rave. I think we'll be going back and forth between the two, because they have a TON more movies and a better selection, I think. Also, they have several series, in order, not just one of the series.
